Terminally Ill Star Wars Fan Wants To See Rogue One Early

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is heavily anticipated amongst the fan community, and that includes British illustrator Neil Hanvey.

Unfortunately, Hanvey's current condition might not allow him to see the film when it releases later this year, as his Cancer is severe. Back in April of this year, he was told he would only have six to eight more months to live. Rogue One doesn't release until December, so there is a chance that he won't get to see it.

His wife Andrea and his St. Michael's Hospice health care assistant Amy Duncan are determined to not let that happen, though, and took to Facebook to ask Disney and Lucas Films if he could be allowed to see an advanced showing of the film, and have created the hashtag #RogueOneWish (via Yahoo). People who have attended the Hospice since even took up lightsabers to help spread the word.

The staff also recently showed their support by gathering together and writing some lyrics to the tune of the Star Wars theme, and Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill has also shown support by retweeting their posts. The original post has been shared over 1,300 times so far.

This wouldn't be the first example of this involving Star Wars, as J.J. Abrams and Disney allowed Daniel Fleetwood to view an early screening of Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens at his house. Fleetwood was diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma and was only given two months to live. A campaign similar to #RogueOneWish was started, and gained support from stars John Boyega and Daisy Ridley, with Abrams calling Fleetwood to give the good news. His wife Ashley described just how meaningful the whole experience was.

"It was like bringing a kid to see his favorite movie at the movie theaters. It was beautiful, and it made me cry to see his reaction," Ashley Fleetwood told a local news station. "I don't think I could ever express into words how grateful we are, and we just want everyone to know that we will never forget that."
