Our dreams (and nightmares) have finally come true! Netflix has officially renewed their bizarre sci-fi summer hit Stranger Things. The first season of the bingeworthy (in one sitting) show left us with plenty of burning questions, mainly if mind-bending hero Eleven is alive and if Will infected the entire town with a slug-like parasite.

The first season, set in the ’80s, followed the thrilling adventures of four kids including a telekinetic girl who are trying to find their lost friend, Will (who was hiding in an alternate reality called the Upside Down). Police Chief Hopper (David Harbour) and Will’s mother Joyce (Winona Ryder) join in on the rescue mission.

Season 2 will debut in 2017 and will consist of 9 episodes, one more than the freshman season. The announcement teaser video below also informs us that the season will take place during the school year (possibly following the Harry Potter model) in the Fall of 1984:

The Duffer brothers will return to helm the script, as they have already said there is a lot more in this new universe to explore and discover. Insiders tell Variety “that work on the second season has already been underway for quite some time.”
