It's hard to believe that Supernatural first aired over a decade ago. The supernatural drama was broadcast on back in 2005 before it transitioned to The CW. After all these years, Supernatural stands as the network's longest running television series with over 240 episodes and counting. Supernatural is set to return this fall for its 12th Season, but could it be the show's last?

Well, probably not. However, the show's cast seems to think its end is nigh despite the fact Supernatural has already stopped the apocalypse on screen.

Chris Pedowitz, the president of CW, has said Supernatural will continue so long as its stars and ratings are stable. However, it seems that actors Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) and Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) are thinking the series will bow out at 300 episodes.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Jensen said, "In a marathon, I keep my sights on that next mile, wherever that might be. And 300's a good number to work for." Jared also commented on the milestone, saying, "If we don't make it to 300, I think Ackles and I will both be truly bummed. When we get to 300, I think Ackles and I will think it might be time to say bye. There's a chance that changes, but we certainly do not take it for granted that we're going to make it to 300."

Supernatural's executive producer also discussed the show's end as Bob Singer said the series deserved a finale. "It would be bad for this show to just ride off in the sunset without a finale," he said. "I think we've earned that. I don't know what that finale is, but we'd certainly like to do one."

Should Supernatural end with its 300th episode, that means the series gets well into Season 14. Bob also said the show's team has talked about how Supernatural wrap up and whether their goal of 300 episodes might make them shorten a season order. "We talked about wanting to be able to know when our end was, and if it was to be, let's say, 300 episodes, we could tell a 13-episode story," he said.

However, the folks behind Supernatural are keeping their options open. They know any number of things could derail the series' goal of reaching 300 episodes. To combat that anxiety, Jensen and Jared are just simply doing all they can to enjoying the show while its around. Jared said, "I feel I've learned a lot from my friend Sam. I've learned a lot from my friend Dean. I want to tell that story as well as possible as long as possible, but I don't want it to get too long in the tooth."

Jensen also chimed in and said he still feels like there's magic on set when he comes into film an episode. "They're paying us to bring that little bit of magic to what they wrote, and I still feel that magic today," he described. "The day that I don't feel that magic will be a very sad day, and I hope that day never comes. I'd like to get to 300 before that day comes."

Supernatural will return for Season 12 this fall on October 13 2017.
