John Barrowman recently said in an interview that he would love to bring his character, Captain Jack Harkness, back to the Doctor Who universe. Fans know that the American actor has always held a special place in his heart for the BBC show, and everyone was sad to see him go, so a return of Jack could be amazing.
“It’s a show and genre that changed my life. I love it dearly and if I’m asked I would do it at the drop of a hat,” Barrowman said.
Now, he is currently working on the CW’s Arrow, which many think would limit his ability to return to Who and don his classic duster jacket. But, Barrowman’s already thinking ahead, in case the call ever comes through.
“And also, my producers here in the US for the show I’m on at the moment, Arrow, they’ve said, ‘If that did happen, we’d let you do it,’” he said.
Does this mean that the stars are aligning? The Radio Times says that there is a “special deal” in place for Barrowman and he has already teased the possible return of fan favorite Torchwood, which takes place in the same universe as Doctor Who.
“The fans know me well enough, I’m only going to say it if I mean it and believe it,” he added, teasing fans even more.
Whether Barrowman makes a stunning return to set and gets to play Jack Harkness opposite Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor or not, Barrowman is set to return as Harkness in a few of the series audio plays. In The Lives of Captain Jack, fans will finally get a glimpse into a bit of his character’s insanely complicated history. It’s expected to drop in June 2017.
