After a short-time in development, it seems that SyFy has ordered an official pilot of Grant Morrison's Happy!. Last month, Universal Cable Productions announced they were working on an adaptation of the graphic novel which SyFy has since green-lit.
According to The Wrap, SyFy has ordered three new pilots: a remake of The Machine, a supernatural series called Haunted, and an adaptation of Happy! by Grant Morrison. The pilot for Happy! will be written and executive produced by the creator and partner Brian Taylor.
The series will follow a character named Nick Sax who leads a very complicated life. The alcoholic ex-cop turned hit man enjoy a life filled with casual murder, meaningless sex, and betrayal. However, when one of his hits go wrong, the wayward man finds his life changed when a tiny, imaginary blue-winged horse called Happy comes introduces itself to Nick.
The pilot for Happy! will be directed by Brian Taylor. Neal Mortiz, Pavun Shetty, and Toby Jaffe will executive produce.
SyFy is looking to broaden its current content through Happy! and its other proposed pilots. The Machine, which is based on an eponymous 2013 film starring Caity Lotz, tells the story of six people in a futuristic society. The series is set to explore the growing conflict between humanity and its technological creations.
As for Haunted, the horror-drama will follow four siblings who are reunited after their parents' deaths. The group soon discovers they must face their own pasts and literal ghosts in a bid for survival.
Morrison will also take part in another SyFy adaptation of an Aldous Huxley novel, Brave New World. Brian Taylor will work with Morrison to executive produce the project along with Amblin Television Co-Presidents Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. Written back in 1913, the novel looks 600+ years into the future and explores how technology and paranoia has corrupted our changeable society.
As the moment, there are now expected release dates for any of these upcoming adaptations.
