Up, up, and away? If you remember the superhero flick Sky High, then you might be interested to hear a sequel to the comedy is reportedly in development. The first film debuted back in 2005 when live-action comic book adaptations were starting to gain steam. Now, after over a decade, a second film could come flying into theaters faster than a speeding bullet.

The news was apparently confirmed in a recent interview with Walt Dohrn and Mike Mitchell during a press junket for Trolls. The directors are industry veterans, and The Hollywood News took time to ask the duo about their upcoming projects. While the two stressed they were yet involved with Shrek 5 despite rumors to the contrary, Mitchell did say they were working on a Sky High sequel.

"We're working on a sequel to Sky High," the director said. "We'll see how that goes."

Of course, fans may be surprised by the revelation. It has been over ten years since the first film debuted to commercial and critical success. However, the film didn't garner enough traction to warrant an immediate sequel, leaving the cast of Sky High to pursue other projects. Nowadays, it looks like the film is looking into franchise potential and revival opportunities given its nostalgic qualities.

And, when you consider Hollywood's obsession with superheroes, it was only a matter of time until Sky High got picked back up.

If you're not familiar with the first film, then you should know it follows the story of Will Stronghold. The ninth grader was a student at Sky High, a school that teaches teens who have superpowers. Will has yet to develop any powers despite being the son of two very famous superheroes, The Commander and Jetstream. So, when he enters Sky High, Will is designated as a 'Hero Support' sidekick and uncovers a villainous conspiracy at the school.

The film also boasted a cast full of superhero cult figures. Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman) played Principal Powers while Kurt Russell portrayed The Commander. Bruce Campbell from Ash vs. Evil Dead was cast as a gym teacher for Sky High with sonic vocal chords. The Flash's Danielle Panabaker starred as a love interest for the lead while Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) played Gwendolyn Grayson.

Obviously, there's no word on what the sequel might focus on. It seems unlikely that much of the original cast will return to the film, but fans could be in for a surprise if some did reprise their roles.
