The bearded, grizzled Wolverine bears a striking resemblance to the character in the “Old Man Logan” storyline.
The “Old Man Logan” storyline from the comics saw Wolverine as an older man in a future where America had become a wasteland run by supervillains after the villains had banded together and killed off all of the superheroes years earlier. Wolverine’s healing factor was still present, but not as powerful as it used to be. After being tricked by Mysterio into murdering all of the other X-Men, Logan had sworn to never use his claws again. Since then, he’d been living a quiet life on a farm with his wife and two children in the western United States.
That modest lifestyle didn’t last. A run in with the Hulk gang, the inbred offspring of the Hulk and his cousin She-Hulk, forces Logan to join Hawkeye on a cross-country trip through the Wasteland, where they ultimately end up in New York for a showdown with the Red Skull.
Once considered a standalone story, the Secret Wars event was able to connect the Wasteland to the rest of the Marvel Universe as a region of Battleworld, the hodgepodge world made up of the remnants of different destroyed universe in what was the Marvel multiverse. When Battleworld was destroyed and the Marvel omniverse was reborn, Old Man Logan found himself somehow transported into the new Marvel Universe.

Since then, Old Man Logan has joined Storm’s team of X-Men, filling the hole left by the main Marvel Universe’s own Wolverine’s death.
According to reports, Logan takes place in a near future where Wolverine’s mutant abilities are not quite what they used to be, and mutant births are down across the globe. Wolverine and the mutant Caliban take care of Professor X in his old age. Meanwhile, a corporation called Transigen is turning mutant children into killed machines. Wolverine meets one of these children, whose hand can be seen in the first poster. The child has two claws like Wolverine’s that protrude from her hand and Wolverine vows to protect her.
The first trailer for Logan has been classified and should be released soon. We also expect to see our first look at X-23 as soon as this Sunday, Oct. 23 (X-23). You can see all of the Logan teasers released so far in the gallery below.
Logan is directed by James Mangold and stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle and Elise Neal.
The title, Logan, is likely an homage to the comic book story “Old Man Logan,” on which Logan is said to be loosely based.
