NO SERIOUSLY. THESE ARE PRETTY HUGE GAME OF THRONES SPOILERS WE’RE TALKING ABOUT HERE. SPOILERS ARE COMING. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED.
Game of Thrones Season 7 recently began filming at Gaztelugatxe, and islet off the coast of Basque Country in Spain that is home to a stunning hermitage. After just one day of filming, set photos have shown whatever is being filmed at Gaztelugatxe will a monumental one, bringing two major Game of Thrones players together for possibly the first time.
According to Basque newspaper Deia (via Watchers on the Wall), the first order of business at Gaztelugatxe was to film a scene in which Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Ser Davos (Liam Cunningham) climb the hermitage steps, possibly escorted by Melisandre (Clarice van Houten). If Melisandre is present, that would confirm her return to Jon’s entourage after being banished in Season 6.
However, that wasn’t the only scene being filmed at Gaztelugatxe. Another scene was filmed with team Targaryen: Dany (Emilia Clarke), Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel), Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson), and Varys (Conleth Hill). Dany and most of her supporters set sail from Meereen en route to Westeros at the end of Game of Thrones Season 6, though Varys had already departed for Dorne to broker an alliance with Olenna Tyrell and Ellaria Sand.
This alone confirms that the Jon Snow and Daenerys will visit the same place โ speculated to be Dragonstone โ in Season 7, though they’ve yet to be captured on camera together. However, a later scene being filmed did show Jon and his entourage walking up the hermitage steps alongside Dany’s supporters, though Dany herself was absent from the team.
We still don’t know the context of this scene, but it seems very likely that it could be Dany’s arrival at Dragonstone, the former seat of power for House Targaryen from which Aegon Targaryen was able to conquer most of Westeros after the Doom of Valyria.
Whether this is Dany’s arrival or not, it seems likely that Jon, the King in the North, is there to form an alliance with Dany against Cersei Lannister. That battle, Targaryen and Stark (or rather, Targaryen and secret Targaryen) allied against the Crown, very well may be the grand climax to Game of Thrones Season 7, clearing the way for the survivors to turn their attention to the oncoming threat of the White Walker invasion from north of The Wall.
Game of Thrones Season 7 is currently filming in multiple locations. Game of Thrones Season 7 will premiere on HBO in 2017.
