The Alien movie franchise continuity has gotten somewhat confusing in recent years, as the original quadrilogy (Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien: Resurrection), morphed into a mashup franchise (AVP), and hen attempted a prequel/reboot in the form of Prometheus.

However, Prometheus didn’t really connect with fans of the franchise, in that it was mostly an indulgence by director Ridley Scott to tell a sci-fi creationism story, rather than properly connecting the prequel with the events of the first Alien.

After Prometheus, fans got a shot of excitement about a year or so ago when District 9 director Neil Blomkamp revealed plans for an Alien 5 that would be a direct sequel to Aliens (including bringing back the surviving characters of that film). Alien 5 has been put on hold, though, as Blomkamp’s plans were up-ended by Ridley Scott pushing his new Prometheus sequel, Alien: Covenant.

The story of Covenant will pick up some time after Prometheus and explore, “The crew of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but it is actually a dark, dangerous world, whose sole inhabitant is the synthetic David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”

Bloody-Disgusting has now pointed us to an interview that Michael Fassbender did with BBC2’s Steve Wright, in which he let slip the name of the new Xenomorph:

Alien Covenant will introduce us to: The Neomorph

No further details on what the creature looks like, or what it’s function in the film is (safe bet that it’s not out there doing charity work), but AVPGalaxy.net has confirmed that it is indeed the name of the new Xenomorph creature.
