Marvel Cinematic Universe fans have been by and large very happy with the Marvel Netflix series that have been released. After Daredevil season 1 broke new ground for what superhero TV could be, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have added some welcome diversity to the MCU, offering richly complex portrayals of new types of superheroes.

2017 will offer us three Marvel Netflix series – Iron Fist, The Punisher and the big Defenders team up – and after that, fans expect the MCU tradition of closing one chapter (or “Phase”) and starting another to continue.

With that in mind, here are 5 Marvel Characters Who Should Be in Netflix Phase 2.

Ghost Rider

Let’s just get this out of the way: The Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider that has been introduced on Agents of SHIELDย has been pretty badass. More than the character, actor Gabriel Luna has proven to be pretty talented, with a bonafide star quality about him.ย

Time to cut the chains of network TV loose and let Ghost Rider speed off into his own Netflix series, with the budget and mature rating and solo focus he deserves.ย

Moon Knight

Marc Spector/Moon Knight is a character that Marvel fans have been asking to see in live-action ever since the MCU began.ย

The story of Moon Knight is a bit dated, but the basics are that a wayward man of skill lands himself on death’s door only to be saved by Egyptian god Khonshu. Put into service as the god’s avatar, Spector pull a Gatsby and reinvents himself as successful entrepreneur, who moonlights as a hero powered by moonlight.

While the character and his origin are not remarkable, it’s Moon Knight’s darker Batman-esque nature and potential for a great live-action interpretation that keepsย him a top candidate on fans’ Netflix series wish list.ย

Black Widow

Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow has been suggested for a movie time and again, but as the membrane between movies and TV (especially streaming services) continues to thin, we think she’d beย a prime candidate to build a bigger bridge between the Marvel Movie and Netflix divisions.ย

Aย Black Widow Netflix miniseries would be a fantastic platform to give Johansson’s character a darker espionage action storylineย to play out.

We can’t think of one better than the “Itsy-Bitsy Spider” miniseries of the late 90s-early 00s, which introduced a new Black Widow (Yelena Belova), who tried to replaceย Natasha Romanov.ย

Nightstalkers

Want a supernatural buddy-cop series likeย Supernatural,ย only more explicitย and bloodyย thanย The Walking Deadย (if not more so?), with vampires and a bit ofย Luke Cageย flava thrown in for good measure? Than do we have the show for you…ย

Seriously though, Blade is back with Marvel and in serious need of a Ghost Rider-style reboot, and Morbius the Living Vampire is a character that fans have long wanted to see in live-action. The two of them together in a Nightstalkersย seriesย would make for a vampire hunter/vampire dynamic quite like anything the horror or superhero genres have ever seen.ย

The Hood

How about a Netflix series that takes all the current elements of the MCU – super powers, advanced tech, aliens, the mystical and “street level” storiesย – and combined them into the long-form explorationย of a villain’s rise to power?ย

The Hood/Parker Roberts was a creation of the 00s, mainly gaining exposure in events like “Secret Invasion” and “Dark Reign.” His origin is tied to the Kingpin (his father’s employer), and Doctor Strange, as Roberts gains the boots and hooded cloak of a demon, granting him mystical powers to carry out his designs of building a criminal empire. He quickly runs afoul of AIM and other tech-powered villains, but eventually subdues challengers and became the head of a crime cabal made up of “street level” villains.

Since The Hood eventually went on to become an anti-hero of sorts, he would be a great character to introduce to the larger MCU through Netflix.
