WARNING: Major Spoilers ahead for The Walking Dead Season Seven.

If you've been watching The Walking Dead this season, you can tell it's been very different from any of the previous seasons.

Instead of our heroes fighting zombies, standing up for justice, and redefining humanity, we've seen exactly the opposite. Characters like Rick and Daryl have become lowly servants of a maniacal villain.

In the season premiere, Negan succeeded in breaking Rick Grimes. After killing two of his best friends, Negan was close to making Rick cut off his own son's hand. Rick eventually got the point, and was widdled down to nothing.

In the latest episode, we watched as Daryl was being tortured by Negan and Dwight. In their attempts to turn him into a Savior, the men put everyone's favorite motorcycle-rider through the ringer. Even the fans are sick of hearing Easy Street at this point, can you imagine how Daryl feels?

This season has been incredibly dark, and profoundly hopeless. Is this what we can expect from now on?

According to Norman Reedus, it's necessary to get to a better place.

In an interview with Deadline, the actor, who portrays Daryl, spoke about this season's difference in tone. He went on to note that the trials of these characters are crucial to audiences feeling their victory.

"You know, it's an emotional season. It's a different season for us. There's a lot of heart in this season, and when and if it ever turns back around, it'll be super large. It'll be very powerful," Reedus said. "Andy and I joke all the time, remember when we were, like, badass on this show and we were like…and it's different, you know? It's harder for us. We're not winning right now, but if you have a hero, he has to go all the way to the bottom before he can rise back up again, and hopefully, there's light at the end of that tunnel, and that's pretty much what this season's about for everyone."

This entire season is building toward the light at the end of the tunnel. So, if you're sick of being beaten down on Sunday nights, just hold on a little longer. The end result will be well worth it.
