Another episode in the books, another championship Sunday for The Walking Dead. Ever since the seventh season of AMC's hit zombie drama premiered in October, the series has reigned as King of Sunday night.

The premiere of season seven, which debuted on October 23, brought in a record number of viewers. Over 17 million people tuned in to watch The Walking Dead that night. The show has been extremely successful over the years, but much of this episode's success has been attributed to the conclusion of the Negan cliffhanger.

At the conclusion of the show's sixth season, the notorious villain Negan was seen killing one of the main characters. The camera cut away just before the episode ended, and fans were made to wait for the conclusion through the entire offseason.

It was clear audiences wanted to find out what had happened, and that no one wanted to wait. The premiere set cable records, and The Walking Dead was set up for a season of success.

A major drop-off occurred in week two, as fans went back to streaming the episode on demand after the cliffhanger was resolved. While a drop-off was expected, the numbers plummeted more than many had imagined. 12.46 million viewers tuned in for episode two, and the network nabbed a 6.1 rating among adults ages 18-49.

Week three saw another decline for The Walking Dead, but not nearly as significant. 11.72 million watched the most recent episode, and the show earned a 5.7 rating in the 18-49 bracket.

Though it may seem that The Walking Dead is losing some steam, it's still leaps and bounds ahead of other Sunday night programming. The second place show garnered just over four million viewers, with 1.8 score among 18-49 year-olds.

What was the second place show? The Talking Dead, the live after show where the events of The Walking Dead are discussed.

The Walking Dead's fourth episode will air on Sunday, November 13 at 9pm ET on AMC.
