Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away Coming Back To US Theaters

If you need to get away, then Fathom Events has just the thing for you. The company with partner with GKIDS to bring Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away to US theaters this December to celebrate the movie's 15th anniversary. So, get ready to to reserve your tickets and bring a map of the movie's magical world when you head to the show.

Fathom Events will screen Spirited Away during a two-day event from December 4-5. The first day will see the film screened with English dubbing while the last day will roll out an English subbed version.

Attendees will also be treated to an exclusive short titled "Ghiblies: Episode 2," marking the first time that the animated footage is shown in North America. The short debuted back in Japan around 2002. Yoshiyuki Momose directed the video while Masahiko Nishimura and Kaoru Kobayashi starred. The story features cute characters from Spirited Away and other Studio Ghibli projects after they become trapped in an anime studio.

So far, more than 400 theaters are elected to show the screenings, so you can find a cinema near you. Showtimes for Spirited Away will be released in the coming weeks as ticket sales go live.

If you are not familiar with Spirited Away, then you should take time to see if when it returns to US theaters. The magical story follows a young girl named Chihiro as she travels with her parents. However, their boring vacation is changed when they stop at a village and Chihiro finds herself whisked away to a mysterious, magical world. Her poor family is turned into pigs by an evil witch Yubaba, so Chihiro must work for the woman as she desperately tries to free her family and herself.

The film debuted in Japan more than 15 years ago, and it still stands as the country's most lucrative movie of all-time. Spirited Away grossed $289 million at the worldwide box office and earned endless praise from critics. The movie won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, making it the only Japanese anime to win the coveted award. Spirited Away also made director Hayao Miyazaki a household name to film fans, and it pushed his animation studio to become one of the world's finest.
