“If I touch someone, I can feel their feelings.”

Although we got our first glimpse of Mantis in July when Marvel officially released a gorgeous piece of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 concept art, today’s new trailer (which is FANTASTIC!!!) offered us our first official look at French actress Pom Klementieff (Spike Lee’s Oldboy) as Mantis.
Like her comic book counterpart, the newest member of the superhero team is sporting a pair of antennae; however, Klementieff’s Mantis doesn’t have green skin and her dark-green leather costume with black trim is a departure from her traditional comic book appearance. Still looks awesome!
What can we expect from Mantis in the film? “She has never really experienced social interaction,” executive producer Jonathan Schwartz told EW. “Everything she learns about dealing with people, she learns from the Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very weird group to learn your social intricacies from.”
Mantis first appeared in Avengers #112 (June 1973) and was created by writer Steve Englehart and artist Don Heck. Mantis was born in Vietnam and her parents were forced to go on the run with her because their union wasn’t approved by her mother’s crimelord family. Her mom eventually was killed and her dad was blinded. Her father sent his infant daughter to the Temple of the Priests of Pama, a branch of pacifist Kree. They are caretakers for Cotati, a telepathic race of sentient plants, and think that baby Mantis is the Celestial Madonna who will one day give birth to the Celestial Messiah, who is regarded by them as “the most important being in the universe.” From then on, she is raised, trained, and when she reached 18-years of age, they wiped her memories and sent her off into the world to receive a crash course in life.
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).
