Ryan Reynolds’s GIF Is Most Retweeted Of The Year

Ryan Reynolds delivered a spot-on performance in FOX’s ultra successful hit Deadpool, but the big screen is not the only place he’s been working his magic.

If you follow Reynolds on Twitter, you are well aware it is a place for some fantastic self-deprecating humor and Deadpool related goings on. It also contained the most retweeted tweet of the year for 2016, but surprisingly it wasn’t a Wade Wilson-specific tweet that earned him the honor.

That is credit to his wife’s hit film The Shallows, footage from which he used in a perfect GIF with the following caption (via CinemaBlend). ” Actual Footage from the first date with my wife. Tried to surprise her and totally forgot I was a f****** shark.”

Aside from the free promotion for her film, it was just another example of Reynolds trademark humor at work. You can see the tweet itself above.

Reynolds was also named Entertainment Weekley’s entertainer of the year. When asked if he foresaw this sort of success in Deadpool’s future, he said “No way. I knew that this was going to speak to the very core of the Deadpool fan base, and I knew they would embrace it. I think it just really landed at a fortunate time. We were right at ‘peak superhero,’ particularly in the sense that the superheroes were all intermittingly clenching their jaw muscles and brooding. Deadpool came along and sort of threw all that on its ass.”

Coupled with the birth of his second child, 2016 has not been a bad year for the popular actor, and development is already underway on Deadpool 2, though that film has seen some shakeup in the production team from the original, specifically director Tim Miller.

Deadpool 2 is set to hit theaters on January 12, 2018.
