The Assassin's Creed movie has an uphill battle in the promotional category, with a certain war movie in the stars coming out just days before it. Still, with tickets on sale now, the film has gotten some additional PR pushes, including a new trailer debuted by Fox UK. The trailer features the most in-depth look at the story of the new film yet, with a heavier focus on Jeremy Irons character (who is one of the only characters we know with 100% certainty comes directly from the video games), Alan Rikkin, and on the Apple of Eden subplot.

Rikkin is the head of Abstergo Industries, the modern-day corporate front of the Templars. The Templars seek to control the world, taking away personal freedom in order to sew order and remove chaos from daily life. The Assassins, their millenia-old enemies, however, believe that free will must come above all else, and work to keep it intact.

In the trailer, we finally see a heavy focus on the Apple of Eden, an ancient artifact that will allow the Templars to remove free will from humanity - their ultimate endgame. The Assassins protect the Apples from the Templars, and the locations of the artifacts are hidden in their memories - hence the Abstergo plot to access those memories through their descendants.

The newest Assassin's Creed trailer also still provides plenty of action, despite the plot-heavy focus. The highlight reel at the end of the trailer, focusing on the award-winning (and nominated) actors, certainly doesn't hurt their case, either.

"Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

"Assassin's Creed stars Academy Award® nominee Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past, 12 Years a Slave) and Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises, La Vie en Rose). The film is directed by Justin Kurzel (Snowtown, Macbeth); produced by New Regency, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, DMC Films and Kennedy/Marshall; co-financed by RatPac Entertainment and Alpha Pictures; and distributed by 20th Century Fox."
