Controversial genre filmmaker Zack Snyder’s next film will not be Justice League 2, says the Heat Vision blog at The Hollywood Reporter.

While Snyder still plans to direct the follow-up to next summer’s superhero super-team-up, the schedule on that movie is reportedly on hold to make room for The Batman, Ben Affleck’s first run at directing a movie featuring the Caped Crusader, in the schedule.

That left Snyder without a project, and while Justice League is gearing up for release, Snyder will be developing The Last Photograph, a film about the conflict in Afghanistan.

The Last Photograph “centers on a war correspondent in Afghanistan who is the only one to survive an attack on a group of Americans. When a special ops soldier in search of a family member shows up, the two team up, with the correspondent hoping to score the story of his life,” according to THR.

The story was one that Snyder and longtime collaborator Kurt Johnstad came up with about ten years ago, but following the success of 300, Snyder became an in-demand director for projects like Watchmen and Man of Steel.

There was a deal in place to produce the movie in 2011, which would have seen Christian Bale and Sean Penn star, but apparently all of the deals, including Snyder’s and Johnstad’s, have since lapsed. The script is going to get an update and a polish, and presumably their contracts will get the same before the movie heads into casting and production.

Snyder and his wife and producing partner Deborah Snyder will produce the film, which THR says will now be shopped at Warner Bros., where Snyder’s Cruel and Unusual shingle has a first-look deal. The plan is to start shooting the movie in late 2017.
