Lost In Space follows the exploits of the Robinsons, a family of pioneering deep-space colonists who become lost after their craft is sabotaged. It has continued to be a cult sensation and is considered one of the most popular pieces of popular science fiction created in the last 50 years.

The original series ran from 1965 until 1968, and there have been spinoffs, sequels, and the like in the form of comics, animation, and a 1998 live-action movie that starred William Hurt, Gary Oldman, and Matt LeBlanc.

Serricchio will appear alongside star Toby Stephens, Molly Parker and Parker Posey in the Netflix remake.

Both Serricchio and Stephens have shows (Bones and Black Sails) which are ending this season. You can see an exclusive look back at Stephens’s Black Sails character here.

In the original series, Major Don West was the military pilot of the Jupiter 2 — the craft on which the stories primarily take place — and the member of the traveling party most suspicious of Dr. Smith, the series’ primary antagonist. Besides being just the square-jawed muscle, though, they could take him in a few different directions: in early episodes, West had a mutual attraction with young Judy Robinson, and an unaired pilot, he was a grad student and scientist rather than a soldier.

Taking its cues from the original series, the show centers around the Robinson family, who is forced to come together in a time of crisis. Stranded light years from their intended destination, they find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons. Equal parts family drama and sci-fi adventure, it is a survival story for the ages.

Zack Estrin (Prison Break) serves as executive producer alongside writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold, Last Witch Hunter); Synthesis Entertainment’s Kevin Burns (The Curse of Oak Island, Ancient Aliens) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Pacific Rim); and Applebox’s Emmy®-nominated director Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones, The Descent) and Marc Helwig. Marshall is also set to direct several episodes of the series. Lost in Space is a Legendary TV production for Netflix.

10-episode first season of the one-hour sci-fi drama, from Legendary TV, will premiere worldwide on Netflix in 2018.
