The next Pixar film brings us back to a world where automobiles are people, too, and looks like it’ll be exploring the darker side of that particular land. Cars 3 debuted a surprisingly dark and adult teaser trailer in November, and it certainly did the job of publicity, getting people talking. Three character spotlight videos (which you can see all in one above) give us a little bit better look at the major players.

But while a Cars 3 new sneak peek was previewed earlier this week for Monday during the National Championship, it may be coming one day early. Walt Disney Studios today retweeted an announcement from the Detroit Auto Show that during their press day on Sunday, there will be a Pixar presentation from Jon Lasseter, “including a sneak peek at Cars 3!”

Now, that’s almost certainly the same sneak peek airing Monday night during the NCAA football National Championship game between Clemson and Alabama; it’s hard to believe they’d debut two new sneak peeks at the film in about 36 hours, after all. It means that the new look at the movie could be up online over the weekend, instead of having to wait for the big football game next week, which airs at 8pm ET Monday.
The official synopsis for Cars 3 follows:
“Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician with her own plan to win, inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet, and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!”
