Long Beach Mayor Who Trashed Marvel Shares His DC Love On Twitter

When building up one faction you don’t necessarily have to deflate another, but the Mayor of Long Beach Robert Garcia had no qualms with letting his comic allegiances be known. Now he’s back to defend his viewpoint of Marvel being less than trash.

Garcia’s opinions drew ire from Marvel fans of course, and he took to social media to elaborate on those views, and why he’s so passionate about DC. Garcia said “Y’all know I’m a huge DC fan. I’ve been reading comics (and hatin’) on Marvel for about 25 years. And I love Superman, WW, Bats & JLA.” Speaking of Wonder Woman, he couldn’t be more excited for her big solo debut. “So the @PattyJenks Wonder Woman movie looks incredible. And I love that WW is the FIRST hero in the DC Movie Universe. Before Superman FYI. This matters because it’s a woman who is the first hero (she debuts during WWI) not Superman or Batman. And I love that.”

Before he signed off, inevitably causing Marvel fans to type out their paragraph long responses to his comments, he said: “…..and yes the Mayor of Long Beach is a comic nerd.” It might be time to hold a town hall, as it seems his Marvel-loving constituents will have a thing or two to say about all this.

The film stars Gal Gadot (Diana Prince/Wonder Woman), Chris Pine (Steve Trevor), Robin Wright (General Antiope), Connie Nielsen (Queen Hippolyta), David Thewlis, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis (Etta Candy), Danny Huston, Ewen Bremmer, Doutzen Kroes, Samantha Jo (Euboea), Florence Kasumba (Senator Acantha), Said Taghmaoui, Eleanor Matsuura (Epione), Emily Carey (Young Diana), and Lisa Loven Kongsli (Menalippe).

The DCEU continues with Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June 2, 2017, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
