Just a couple years ago another Tomb Raider movie, starring a recent Academy Award winner no less, seemed like a unlikely prospect, and yet, here we are. The new Tomb Raider reboot, starring Best Supporting Actress winner Alicia Vikander, has officially wrapped filming.

Tomb Raider director Roar Uthaug (The Wave) celebrated passing the finish line with an Instagram video. It’s hard to say how much can be gleaned from the video, as it’s difficult to make out what Uthaug is saying, and it doesn’t appear as if star Alicia Vikander is on set. That said, Uthaug does clearly thank Vikander, and we do get a glimpse of a large greenscreen set in the background. The new Tomb Raider has been hyped as more down-to-earth adventure, but clearly plenty of CGI will still be in play! Check out the video, below.
Tomb Raider will largely be based on the 2013 Tomb Raider video game reboot, with dashes of its sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider. Here’s the movie’s synopsis:
“Seven years after the disappearance of her father, 21-year-old Lara has refused to take the reins of his global business empire, instead working as a bike courier in London while taking college classes. Eventually she becomes inspired to investigate her father’s disappearance and travels to his last-known location: a tomb on an island somewhere off the coast of Japan. Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, whoโagainst the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spiritโmust learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name Tomb Raider.”
Tomb Raider, which also stars Dominic West, Walton Goggins, and Daniel Wu is scheduled to break into theaters on March 16, 2018.
