The iconic Adam Warlock cocoon which Marvel Comics fans have been familiar with for years was thought to had premiered in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, when the Collector had a cocoon locked away in his warehouse. As it would turn out, this cocoon would serve as an Easter egg and nothing more when the film’s sequel truly and explicitly teased the creation of the character.
Director James Gunn recently addressed the multiple cocoon issue when a fan probed him about it on Twitter.
The cocoon in the 1st GotG (& at Disneyland) is likely a primitive version of the Sovereign cocoons, when they 1st hatched their own. https://t.co/Xs0s0BB1ha

“The cocoon in the first Guardians of the Galaxy (& at Disneyland) is likely a primitive version of the Soverign cocoons, when the first hatched their own,” Gunn wrote, indicating this cocoon was never actually intended to create Warlock but, instead, the Sovereign race which prides themselves on being golden perfection.
