The Oculus Rift will add another virtual reality experience to its growing catalog, this time with a superhero twist. A new game called Marvel Powers United VR was recently announced for the VR device during the D23 Expo.

Revealed during the D23 Expo with a brief preview of what players can expect from the VR gameplay, battles that will involve a co-op experience with up to three other people taking part in the superhero mayhem. From what was shown above and what was discussed on-stage, Oculus Studios informed viewers that there'd be quite a few heroes to choose from in the game, some of which include the Hulk, Ronan the Accuser, Captain Marvel, and Rocket Raccoon. More than a dozen characters are expected to be playable, so we can expect many more to come soon, though these four are the only ones that the game's site has listed at this time.

Taking in what was revealed during the brief details that were provided on-stage when Marvel Powers United VR was being discussed, it looks like it might be awhile before players can get their hands on this new VR experience from Marvel. It's scheduled to be released in 2018, but gamers who plan on attending the huge San Diego Comic Con next week will be able to try out some demos at the Marvel booth.

Some popular video game personas are also being incorporated into the game to help build up some hype around the VR product with the widely popular Markiplier showing off the game during the reveal. Speakers during the announcement discussed how different it felt playing different heroes in the game, saying that the height difference between Hulk and Rocket Raccoon was even taken into account to fully flesh out the VR experience.

Aside from Marvel Powers United VR, Disney also unveiled another new device and experience that steps away from traditional gaming. Another reveal came when the Star Wars experience called Star Wars: Jedi Challenges was announced, an augmented reality product that'll be used with a new headset being developed by Lucasfilm and Lenovo.
