The new Thor: Ragnarok footage revealed at San Diego Comic Con on Saturday revealed a number of new creatures and beast which the God of Thunder will be encountering when the film rolls around. Among them was Surtur, the fiery demon residing in Hel.

Surtur, as he will seen in Thor: Ragnarok, is a product of two performances. Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi performed the motion capture sequences for the character on set while veteran actor Clancy Brown lends his voice to the character. Waititi revealed as much during a red carpet event at San Diego Comic Con following the Marvel Studios panel in Hall H.

“I did a little of the mo-cap stuff for Surtur, body wise, but then we have Clancy Brown doing the voice of Surtur,” Waititi said.

In addition to Surtur and the director’s chair, Waititi has an additional role in the film as Korg, the rock giant who Thor befriends while in Sakaar. “I’m playing a character from Planet Hulk called Korg,” “He becomes Thor’s mate. It started off as a very small role. It wasn’t me, I didn’t do it, but the role has gotten bigger now.”

Brown is best known for his role as Mr. Krabs on Spongebob Squarepants, but also appeared in LOST, Shawshank Redemption, Starship Troopers, and Highlander.

But first, he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger โ€“ the Incredible Hulk!
