With all of the major plot movements going on in the first two episode of Arrow, Oliver’s romance with Felicity — a major driving factor in seasons 3 and 4 and rumored to be culminating with a wedding soon — has kind of taken a back seat, but series star Stephen Amell promises there is a plan.

That romance continues to be something that draws some fans to the series, and after season 5 barely addressed it, then left it on a hopeful note, those folks are beginning to wonder what season 6 might hold.

“We had a nice moment between them in the premiere that set the table — they pushed the pause button because Oliver’s relationship with William was more important, and the immediate aftermath of Samantha’s death was obviously very traumatic for him, so it’s Oliver’s responsibility to make sure that William getting comfortable with Oliver was the most important thing,” Amell told EW. “But there are flickers. They’re obviously in love with one another, but they just haven’t pulled the trigger on the full-fledged back-together let’s-go-for-it.”

At Comic Con this summer, Amell told ComicBook.com that navigating the relationship in light of Oliver’s new status as a single father would be a challenge — and while one assumes that he will have much more downtime now that he is no longer a superhero at night, that does not mean things will immediately snap into place with Felicity.

“They have so much history together that it’s just a matter of when’s the right time?” He admitted. “There’s a dynamic that cannot be ignored with William. Oliver loves Felicity — and I think he hopes she loves him — in a way that they will always be there for each other. It’s been five months since Lian Yu, so if it takes another five months, or another five years, then hopefully they’ll still feel the same way.”

That seems like a safe assumption so far, although last season each of the two did briefly date. Oliver’s life as Green Arrow got in the way, though, as he killed Felicity’s boyfriend (there were extenuating circumstances, we swear) and Oliver’s girlfriend was kidnapped by Prometheus.

Arrow airs on Thursday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, following new episodes of Supernatural.
