Fans did not respond enthusiastically when the first trailer for Marvel’s The Inhumans leaked online. After Marvel and ABC finally released an official version with improved visual effects, the reactions failed to improve.

Now one of the show’s directors has come out with his response to the initial trailer, admitting he was disappointed in it as well.
“I was mixed about the first trailer as well,” Roel Reine said to Metro. “I felt like it didn’t give you the scope, it didn’t give you a lot of secrets or visual effects.”
Reine admitted that one particular source of disappointment โ Medusa‘s computer-generated hair โ was not ready to be seen by fans.
“I felt it was a little bit too early because the visual effects were not ready โ Medusa’s hair was not ready,” Reine said. “So I was really nervous about it and would think the fans would not really like it.”
Reine added that the first trailer made him go “ooooosh,” but that he had to separate himself from it because it was out of his hands, made by the marketing team behind the show.
“The trailer was made by other people, so I was really nervous about it when I saw it. So I was like, ‘oh guys maybe we should hold off,’ but it was too late because it was already in the open.”
But Reine added that he was much happier with the new trailer that debuted at San Diego Comic-Con.
“I’m very happy we kind of changed it around. The second trailer really got all the fans back on track and they really like it now and they really want to see it. I was really happy with that second trailer.”
While it still remains to be seen how the show will be taken and received by fans, that first impression didn’t do any favors. Marvel’s The Inhumans is set to premiere in IMAX theaters September 1, followed by its television debut beginning September 29 on ABC.
