It’s been a mixed year for Marvel TV. Agents of SHIELD wowed fans with its ‘Agents of Hydra’ arc, but Iron Fist failed to impress fans. The studio is now facing intense backlash over its impending debut of Marvel’s The Inhumans, and the project’s showrunner just made an apt DC comparison over the ordeal.

The TCA (Television Critics Association) has been hosting press events this month, and ABC had its showcase today. It was there the crew of The Inhumans came out in force, and Anson Mount gave press a noteworthy quote at the event.
According to KSite TV, Mount said this when asked by a journalist whether The Inhumans was “the show [he] set out to make:”
“You’re making me feel like Ben Affleck right now.”

For meme-lovers, Mount’s note will be one they immediately understand; After all, the Batman star did become a viral sensation after an interview of him being asked about Batman v Superman‘s negative reviews went live. The actor was shown looking rather despondent when an interviewer questioned Henry Cavill and himself about the issue, and it only got worse when Simon & Garfunkel music was laid on top of the clip.
It’s not surprising to hear Mount bring up the Ben Affleck comparison, not when The Inhumans continues to garner criticism. Fans reacted unfavoritably to the show’s first trailer, and its second did nothing to assuage fears. Fans want to have little hope for the ambitious miniseries, and ABC President Channing Dungey is asking audiences to give the show a chance.
“A lot of the first stuff was a reaction to Medusa’s wig. Fans, as you know, feel very passionately and very strongly about that.” Dungey told press at TCA. “We released some new footage at Comic-Con that I think has reversed some of that conversation. This is still a work in progress. We’re really down to the wire on some of the special effects.”
For now, fans can only wait and see how The Inhumans turns out. The series is set to drop in IMAX theaters this month before its entire miniseries rolls out episodically on ABC.

The show is executive produced by Scott Buck (Dexter, Marvel’s Iron Fist) with Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Luke Cage) and Jim Chory (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Luke Cage). Buck is serving as showrunner. Roel Reine (Admiral, Black Sails) will direct the first two episodes, which will debut in IMAX theaters. Marvel’s Inhumans is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios.
The first two episodes of Marvel’s The Inhumans will premiere in IMAX theaters on Friday, Sept. 1. The full eight-episode series will air on ABC on Fridays as part of the network’s fall television line-up.
