It doesn’t sound like the pair of upcoming Avengers film will be the end of the road for Renner’s run as Hawkeye. His “not goodbye” but “see you later” seems to indicate he will, at some point, return to the role. The actor has previously mentioned he is interested in a standalone Hawkeye film but hopes Marvel Studios doesn’t take too long to ask for one.
Renner is set to appear in the Marvel Studios ensemble film Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel which is in production now for release in 2019. He has played Hawkeye since 2011, when he first appeared in Thor. Since, he has reprised the role for The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018.
