The fourth series of BBC's Sherlock has begun filming.

The start of production on the new series was announced via a Twitter video, in which co-creator Mark Gatiss (who also plays Mycroft Holmes) announces, "We're back. The game is on," before slapping the production slate.

The slate also reveals that Rachel Talalay is directing the premiere episode. Talalay directed the Tank Girl movie, but more recently directed the Series 8 and 9 finales if Doctor Who.

Sherlock is a modern reimagining of Arthur Conan Doyle's beloved detective. The series stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Doctor John Watson. The show has been on a long hiatus since the Series 3 finale, but came back for a New Year's Day special titled Sherlock: The Abominable Bride.

Sherlock Series 4 doesn't have an official premiere date yet, but it is expected to air in 2017.
