As many fans hoped, Jujutsu Kaisen has returned. While some were expecting a spinoff exploring events the main story never covered, a sequel titled Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has debuted instead. As a direct continuation of Gege Akutami’s original manga, it takes place nearly seven decades after the events of the original story. The first chapter launches the new saga by introducing aliens into the mix.

The opening chapter lightly touches on past events, giving fans a glimpse of what happened after Ryomen Sukunaโs defeat. However, much like the original series, it is filled with subtle context that can be easy to overlook. To help with that, weโve gathered three of the best details from the first chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo that you might have missed.
3) One Piece and Hunter X Hunter Reference

The easiest detail to miss in the debut of the Jujutsu Kaisen sequel is a subtle reference to the One Piece and Hunter x Hunter manga. After the main villain is introduced along with his plan to abduct another child, a manga volume appears in the background featuring a panel from One Pieceโs very first chapter, where Shanks entrusts his straw hat to Luffy. However, in this version, Luffy is sneakily replaced by Gon, recognizable from his spiky hair.
While it might be easy to dismiss this spiky-haired character as someone else, Gege Akutamiโs fondness for One Piece and Hunter x Hunter makes it clear that the reference is intentional. Another standout One Piece nod comes when Tsurugi Okkotsuki is shown training with weights strapped to his wooden sword, just like Zoro. Itโs a quirky detail that highlights Gegeโs admiration for both of these iconic series.
2) Sorcerers Are Weaker

The main antagonist of the first chapter is strategically introduced in the debut of the Jujutsu Kaisen sequel, and one of the key details he reveals is significant not for what is stated outright, but for what it implies about the seriesโ future. It is revealed that the value of sorcerers is declining, and since the era of Gojo Satoru and Yuji Itadori, no sorcerer of comparable strength has emerged.
This decline is likely the result of Sukunaโs defeat, Kenjakuโs fall, and even Gojoโs death, all of which disrupted the balance of cursed energy. As a consequence, sorcerers are no longer being born with the same great potential. This suggests that while the new protagonists may receive power-ups, they are unlikely to reach the same level as Gojo or the peak of sorceryโs prime. Instead, the series may feature overwhelmingly strong characters among the new race, the Simurians, with Maru standing out as the one with the greatest potential.
1) Jujutsu Kaisen Sequel Is Incorporating Sci-Fi Elements

The most hidden detail, and perhaps the most important one, that sets the sequel apart from the original is the implication of sci-fi elements. While the introduction of alien entities, the Simurians, already suggests a sci-fi direction, the story also takes place in the future, where technology has advanced accordingly.
In the first chapter, the female protagonist, Yuka, is shown using a futuristic device to take notes. Though its use seems minor, it strongly hints that sorcerers may also possess cursed tools that are scientifically engineered. If true, this could be the most significant hidden detail in the debut of the Jujutsu Kaisen sequel, paving the way for a series that feels very different from the original. Whether this shift will be for better or worse remains to be seen.
