Jujutsu Kaisen might be in the works on coming back for Season 3 of the anime next year, but the franchise has announced it’s expanding with a brand new sequel and spinoff now in the works. Jujutsu Kaisen ended its run with Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine last year, but the franchise has been hard at work with new materials ever since. The anime is gearing up for its own comeback early next year, and the creator behind the original manga is also hard at work on keeping the story moving forward with some brand new projects in the meantime.

It’s a pretty big week for the Jujutsu Kaisen franchise as not only has series creator Gege Akutami returned to Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine with a brand new sequel series, but it’s also been announced that there’s a new spinoff on the way. Tapping a major Horror novel and film writer, this new Jujutsu Kaisen spinoff is very mysterious at this point as it likely will be tapping into more of the horrific side of the franchise that fans of the series have fallen in love with over the years.
Jujutsu Kaisen Is Getting Its Own Sequel
Jujutsu Kaisen has announced its getting a new spinoff novel from “by the most terrifying horror writer, Yumeaki Hirayama.” A release window or date has yet to be announced for the new Jujutsu Kaisen spinoff as of this initial announcement, but the “terrifying horror” aspect of the announcement does tease a major novel that expands more of the horror that Jujutsu Kaisen played with. But while the main series then focused more on an increasingly tough series of fights, it did leave more of the Horror aspects behind as its central characters didn’t really fear death or whatever fate could be coming their way.
Yumeaki Hirayama has written novels such as Cursed, Tokyo Psycho, Diner and more, and some of these projects have gone on to be adapted into successful film projects. The writer is experienced with the Horror genre, and it could be what Jujutsu Kaisen fans are looking for. It might not even feature many of the characters from the series itself, but there’s still so much about its world that Jujutsu Kaisen has largely kept a mystery. But a spinoff novel like this is going to be the perfect way to expand on those left behind ideas there wasn’t time (or room) to explore before.
Jujutsu Kaisen Is Blowing Up Right Now

Jujutsu Kaisen has quite a lot going on right now. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1 of the anime is currently scheduled for a release sometime in January 2026 as part of the Winter 2026 anime schedule, and will be streaming its new episodes exclusively with Crunchyroll when it premieres. But there’s even more coming on the way as the franchise has already started to expand with a brand new sequel series releasing new chapters each week.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is the official name of the franchise’s brand new sequel series written by Gege Akutami with art from Cipher Academy creator Yuji Iwasaki. This new series takes place several decades following the events of the original series, and follows Yuta’ grandchildren as they take on aliens in a whole new phase of wild adventures for the Jujutsu Kaisen world.
