X-Men ’97 was a hit on Disney+, proving that there were plenty of animation fans who were more than happy to return to the world of Marvel’s merry mutants. While each of the mutants went through some major changes in the animated series’ revival, Logan is hanging on by a thread thanks to the events of the current series’ first season finale. With a second season in the works, we had the chance to chat with Wolverine’s original voice actor, Cal Dodd, who returned to the series about the future and how his character is dealing with losing his adamantium skeleton.

During the 1993 comic book storyline, X-Men: Fatal Attractions, Logan had his adamantium ripped from his skeleton by the master of magnetism, giving Wolverine a rough couple of years in fighting old and new villains alike. No longer having an unbreakable skeleton and having claws that are simply bone, this time period is one of Logan’s weakest eras in the Marvel Comics. In our chat with Cal Dodd at this year’s Dragon Con, the voice of Wolverine didn’t believe that losing his adamantium would be too much of a hassle.”In my case, Logan is who he is. When he went through this, he bounces back and goes, ‘That all you got?’”
Wolverine Won’t Stay Down For Long

The voice of Rogue, “Much like the original animated series to X-Men ’97, we’re picking up right where we left off for season two. A few weeks or months later, we are still the same characters, and season two will be the same characters. As in any kind of situation with humans, if you have dramatic things happen, that affects your emotions, but people will have to wait and watch in season two, Sugah.”
Dodd shared some surprising commentary regarding a big change that X-Men ’97’s showrunners had asked of him in returning to the role, aka cursing as Wolverine. Cal turned down the opportunity for Logan to throw out swear words, stating that the X-Men’s most popular member didn’t need cursing to show the mettle of his character, “Why do you want me to say that? That’s not going to make him tougher; he’s already tough as nails. In the old series, there was no cursing, and no one was killed on camera. I don’t need to say that, when I can always call people ‘an egg-sucking piece of gutter trash.’”
When last we saw Logan, he was barely hanging onto life, jettisoned through time with the rest of the X-Men following their fight against Magneto in the recent season finale. With numerous storylines hinted at for season two, like the return of Apocalypse, the potential resurrection of Gambit, Scott and Jean raising Nathan in a dystopian future, and more, Logan’s current predicament is one part of the whole that many animation fans are looking forward to seeing play out.
