For the last several months, the entire entertainment world has been caught up in the possibility of one of the most anticipated movies of all time getting delayed. Twentieth Century Fox's lawsuit against Warner Bros. over the Watchmen movie resulted in the movie getting a ton of free press coverage as entertainment journalist hung on every twisted legal turn. When the judge in the case recognized that Twentieth Century Fox had some interest in the Watchmen movie property, thousands of comic book fans held their breath in fear that the Watchmen movie might be delayed. However, everyone can now exhale a sigh of relief as the Watchmen movie will keep its March 6, 2009 release date. Warner Bros. and Twentieth Century Fox have released the following joint statement, "Warner Bros. and Twentieth Century Fox have resolved their dispute regarding the rights to the upcoming motion picture Watchmen in a confidential settlement. Warner Bros. acknowledges that Fox acted in good faith in bringing its claims, which were asserted prior to the start of principal photography. Fox acknowledges that Warner Brothers acted in good faith in defending against those claims. Warner Bros. and Fox, like all Watchmen fans, look forward with great anticipation to this film's March 6 release in theatres." The last part of the statement sure sounds like Twentieth Century Fox might have realized that delaying the Watchmen movie would have upset comic book fans. Something that they would likely not want to do since they are banking on X-Men Origins: Wolverine being the movie of the summer.
