Following Stan Lee's cancellation of a number of personal appearances last week, rumors started to fly that the aging comic book legend may be having health problems--and while representatives for Lee denied it quite strenuously, many fans were not entirely convinced, especially after days with no details emerging. Today, though, Lee has released a statement through his company, POW! Entertainment, which reveals that while nothing life-threatening was going on, it was in fact a medical issue that has sidelined him: He's had a pacemaker installed. The co-creator of most of Marvel's most successful characters, Lee maintains a very busy schedule. He cancelled appearances at Wizard World Ohio and an appearance at the Toledo Authors! Authors! Expo. Lee is expected to return to a normal schedule soon, with appearances at the New York Comic-Con and shows in Texas still on his calendar. Check out his official statement below:

Attention, Troops! This is a dispatch sent from your beloved Generalissimo, directly from the center of Hollywood's combat zone! Now hear this! Your leader hath not deserted thee! In an effort to be more like my fellow Avenger, Tony Stark, I have had an electronic pace-maker placed near my heart to insure that I'll be able to lead thee for another 90 years. But fear thee not, my valiant warriors. I am in constant touch with our commanders in the field and victory shall soon be ours. Now I must end this dispatch and join my troops, for an army without a leader is like a day without a cameo! Excelsior!
