Death Star

While Disney is planning to have Star Wars Episode VII completed by 2015, a new petition seeks to have the United States government start building a real life Death Star by 2016. One of the most entertaining things ever done by the Obama administration was to create an online petition system on the White House website. Any petition that gathers more than 25,000 digital signatures within 30 days is guaranteed a response. Of course, people are having all sorts of fun with the petition system. Last month, we reported on a petition to establish a new legal system based on motorcycle riding judges, essentially turning America into a real life version of the Judge Dredd comic books. Now, the latest fun petition calls for the construction of a Death Star. According to the petition, "By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense." So far the petition to secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016 has only garnered a little over 700 signatures. However, we expect it to quickly gain in popularity, because who wouldn't want more job creation?
