It had been previously reported that J.J. Abrams had turned down the opportunity to direct a Star Wars movie, based on his loyalty to the Star Trek franchise. However, according to The Wrap, Lucsafilm President Kathleen Kennedy had been heavily recruiting him for the job and won him over. Ben Affleck, who has won acclaim for directing Argo, was also reportedly under consideration.
