Action Comics #17

Earlier today, Comicbook.com reported on how Action Comics #17 reveals the death story for Superman's adoptive parents Jonathan and Martha Kent in the New 52. Except then a reader reminded us that the way Jonathan Kent dies in the New 52 universe has already been revealed. Back in Justice League #11, Superman recounts the memory of his father's death. Superman says, "When those spirits passed through me...I watched my father have a heart attack again." Now, before you think that maybe Superman just had a bad memory of his father having a heart attack and that's not how he died, Superman also added, "I couldn't save him." It seems pretty clear cut that Superman was remembering watching Jonathan Kent die of a heart attack. Now, in Action Comics #17, which is to be released tomorrow, a preview shows Jonathan Kent dying of injuries sustained during a car crash. Was Superman lying to his Justice League friends about what he saw? Or does Superman have a really bad memory and simply can't recall how his adoptive father died? Or maybe the New 52 continuity is starting to unravel and this is the first sign that the old history still exists and could be coming back one day? Check out the two different versions of Jonathan Kent's death in the New 52 below. How Superman remembers Jonathan Kent dying of a heart attack in Justice League #11 (New 52).

In fairness, all we've seen is the IO9 preview pages of Action Comics #17, so maybe there is some type of explanation in the story other than a very big continuity discrepancy between Justice League and Action Comics in the New 52.
