Motor City Comic Con

This weekend (May 16-18th), an estimated 35,000 fans will head to Novi, Michigan to celebrate the 25th annual Motor City Comic Con at the Suburban Collection Showplace and ComicBook.com will be there to cover all the awesome events that they have to offer!Motor City Comic Con started in 1989, when the owner of Motor City Comics, Michael Goldman, held the first event at the Dearborn Civic Center in Dearborn, Michigan which saw around 2,500 attendees. The Motor City Comic Con flipped back and forth between the Dearborn Civic Center and the Novi Expo Center for a few years before finding a new location at the Rock Financial Showplace/ Suburban Collection Showplace in 2005.Many big named comic book guests have visited the MCCC over the years, including James O’Barr (The Crow), David Finch, Greg Rucka, Tim Sale, Chris Claremont, Tony Moore, and J. Michael Straczynski. But comic books aren’t the only reason to head to Motor City Comic Con, the media guests throughout the years have also been incredible. A few noteworthy media guests of the past include Adam West, Burt Ward, Sam Huntington, George Takei, Carrie Fisher, Doug Jones, Billy Dee Williams, Linda Blair, and Norman Reedus. This year’s event features over 300 comic and media guests, and will likely have something for everyone. Undoubtedly, fans will descend upon Speaker Room 1 on Sunday at 12:30 PM for a panel featuring Scott Wilson (Hershel), Jon Bernthal (Shane), and Jane McNeill (Patricia), where they will talk about the demise of their characters in the apocalyptic world of The Walking Dead. Following that panel, at 1:30 PM, will be a Game of Thrones panel attended by Jason Momoa.Comic book fans rejoice as this year’s MCCC will have a ton of comic book guests as well! Ryan Ottley, who works with The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman on Image Comics’ Invincible, will be attending — along with the legendary comic creator Chris Claremont, Burn the Orphanage artist and co-writer Sina Grace, artist extraordinaire Bill Sienkiewicz, DC and Marvel’s powerhouse writer Charles Soule, Daredevil and Hulk writer Mark Waid, and OZ artist Skottie Young. If you’re more of a local, DIY comic fan, there will also be a ton of Detroit area comic creators to browse as well.If sitting inside a packed room listening to actors talk or waiting in long lines for signatures isn’t your thing, there will be an adult cosplay contest held on Saturday afternoon as well as a childrens cosplay contest held on Sunday. The adults cosplay contest will be judged by Scott Crawfords’ Alienated Productions, and guest judges Dan Phillips and Alloy Ash, while the childrens cosplay contest will be judged by the 501st Legions Great Lakes Garrison. There will also be a showcase of original screen used costumes like Wesley Snipe’s Day Walker costume from the 1998 film Blade, Data’s uniform from Star Trek Nemesis, Milla Jovovich’s Alice Costume from Resident Evil Afterlife, and a few costumes from Stargate SG-1 as well. If that doesn’t get you excited, than maybe Ghostbuster’s Ecto-1 will, which Ghostbusters actor Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore) has brought with him just for Motor City Comic Con!To learn more about the Motor City Comic Con’s 25th Anniversary and to buy event passes, click here.
