That's right, Twin Peaks and Desperate Housewives star Kyle MacLachlan is joining the cast of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a recurring role, according to Yahoo! TV.

Specifically -- and here's where it gets really spoilery, so if you don't want to hear about it, turn back -- he'll join the cast as...

...wait for it...

...Skye's father, and thus a key player in one of the lingering, unsolved mysteries left over from the show's first season.

It's safe to assume that he'll be a superhuman of some kind --Kree and Inhuman are the two most popular guesses -- since her parents were described as having laid waste to a Chinese city while looking for their missing infant years ago. The season finale closed with Centipede's Raina approaching a hidden figure and telling him, "I found your daughter."

MacLachlan appeared in a number of episodes of CBS's How I Met Your Mother with recurring Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. guest star Cobie Smulders (she as a lead and he as a recurring guest). He also provided the voice for Superman in Justice League: The New Frontier, one of the animated DC Universe feature films based on the award-winning miniseries by Darwyn Cooke, and starred in the much-reviled film adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune.

Twin Peaks: The Complete Mystery, which includes all of the series' episodes as well as deleted scenes and the Fire Walk With Me prequel movie, is now available on Blu-ray. Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s first season comes out in September.
