Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is returning for its third season on ABC next month, which means it’s time to start delving back into the conspiracy fueled, super-spy corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A lot happened in the show’s previous season, with the introduction of the Inhumans, a civil war within S.H.I.E.L.D., and the traitorous Grant Ward playing all sides of the conflict.

Now, as we approach Season 3, we’ve been thinking about what we most want out of the new season. Here’s our five top picks.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3 premieres Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.

Secret Warriors

Marvel has already confirmed that Season 3 of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be inspired by the comic book series Secret Warriors, which saw Daisy Johnson leading a team of “caterpillars” โ€“ young people with powers and potential โ€“ under the guidance of Nick Fury.

More specifically, we want to see some of our favorite characters from that series make the jump to the MCU: Manifold, Druid, Phobos, Hellfire, Yo-Yo, and more. We want to see them act as Marvel’s first TV superhero team. The more full-on, super-powered action, the better.

Daisy “Quake” Johnson

Season 2 finally confirmed that Skye is indeed the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Daisy Johnson, a.k.a. Quake. We’re hoping that, in Season 3, the character really grows into herself.

Skye made big steps in Season 2, growing from a hacker to a S.H.I.E.L.D. field agent, but now that she’s got her power we hope to see her really become the badass character that we know Quake as from the comics.

Hopefully Skye will really have a chance to step up and lead her Secret Warriors team this season.

Hydra Reborn

Grant Ward went through a transformation of his own in Season 2. After being revealed as a traitor in Season 1, he tried to toe the line between hero and villain through most of Season 2, even after Skye shot him.

Ward hit another turning point at the end of the season, when he was tricked into killing Agent 33. Now, he seems driven by nothing but revenge.

To that end, Ward has returned home to Hydra, but this time in a leadership position. We’re hoping to see Ward become a formidable new head, leading a new kind of Hydra against S.H.I.E.L.D. this season.

Leviathan

Leviathan was introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the first season of Agent Carter, but they were mostly an off-screen threat.

Leviathan also played a big role in Secret Warriors, but in that series they were monstrous creatures, transformed by mad science fueled attempts to grab power.

We’re hoping that Leviathan makes its presence known in the modern era in this season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., setting the table for a three-way war with S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra.

And if they happen to look like monsters, all the better.

Inhumanity

Hiding on the fringe of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years, the Inhumans have now been revealed, at least to S.H.I.E.L.D.

Now that they’re officially on the board, we’re hoping that we’ll see multiple factions of Inhumans emerge, adding some depth to the culture and characters.

Lash is already confirmed to appear in Season 3, and he’s certainly a different breed of Inhuman from what we’ve seen so far. Let’s hope he’s not the only one.
