Hype for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel / Alien prequel (pt. 2) has been mounting ever since 20th Century Fox held a 2017 movie preview, unveiling the very first Alien: Covenant footage. Response to that footage was overwhelmingly positive, with viewers claiming that the film brings things back to the sci-fi/horror roots of the very first Alien. Since then, however, the larger viewing audience has been waiting intently a trailer – only to get a series of teaser images released over social media.

As you can see above, today’s image is a little more… “colorful” than the previous ones. That’s because we see what is presumably the titular spaceship Covenant, carrying a bunch of Earth people to a new colony – only, the trip clearly doesn’t go a smoothly as planned. As with other teaser photos, there’s a cryptic numerical caption: “224612072104.”

With its abundance of warm bodies (victims) Alien: Covenant is primed for some truly bloody and horrific sequences of Xenomorphs wreaking havoc all over the Covenant ship. How that mayhem unfolds is a central piece of intrigue going into this film. As this photo indicates, it’s going to be a hell of a horror experience.

In Alien: Covenant, headed toward a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew members of the colony ship Covenantdiscover what they believe to be an uncharted paradise, but it is actually a dark, menacing world in which the only inhabitant is the synthetic David (Michael Fassbender), a survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant opens in theaters May 19, 2017.
