Arrow: Easter Eggs and DC Comics References In “Sins of the Father”

After an embarrassment of Easter egg riches on The Flash last night, this week’s Arrow was comparably quiet.

Well, on the Easter egg front. Story-wise, it was pretty damn crazy.

In any event, bearing in mind that there were only four fairly new Easter eggs we noticed (five if you count them referring to The Calculator as “Noah,” confirming his civilian identity, but we don’t count that since we talked about him at length last week), let’s dig in.

So…what did we see? What did we miss?

SINS OF THE FATHER

This is a common title and an even more common theme, but since there’s been some memorable DC stories featuring the title, it seemed worth briging up.

The first arc of James Robinson’s beloved ’90s Starman run was titled “Sins of the Father.”

There was an episode of The New Batman Adventures using the title. The villain was Two-Face, and featured the first appearance of Robin.

And an episode of 1990’s The Flash, which is a little ironic when you consider John Wesley Shipp’s new gig.

T-SPHERE

We’ve already talked about the T-spheres a few times in our Easter egg segments, but since Felicity actually described one and what it’s supposed to do — that it’s a communciations device, for starters — it’s worth mentioning again. It looks like Mr. Terrific’s trademark weapon/accessory will be coming to life soon.

7th & RUCKA

Longtime Batman writer Greg Rucka gets a mention in a street name.

And if that’s a surprise to you, it’s probably because you comic book readers are saying “Wait! Rucka never wrote Green Arrow!”

Which is right. But he did co-create Nyssa Raatko.

SEVERED ARMS

Severed arms are a pretty common in the Green Arrow mythology.

We’ll even be seeing Oliver with one soon on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Since Malcolm has always been an older, darker reflection of Oliver, it seems likely losing his hand is a nod to The Dark Knight Returns, where an older, darker Oliver has the same thing happen.
