Slowly, but surely, progress is being made on the long-anticipated Beetlejuice sequel.
The film’s screenwriter, Seth Grahame-Smith, gave an update on the project in this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly. Smith, who is also co-producing the sequel with director Tim Burton, revealed that he has finished a few drafts of the script and has attracted the attention of the franchise’s main players.

As he’s writing,ย Grahame-Smith said he’s waiting on Tim Burton’s schedule to open up before really diving into the film. After Burton finishes his current project, he will then move onto Beetlejuice.
“Tim’s got to make [Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children],” Grahame-Smith told the magazine. “We’re waiting in the wings ready to go right after Peregrine wraps up.”
A sequel to Tim Burton and Michael Keaton cult classic has gained considerable traction over the past few months, given that it’s first installment came out in 1988. In another interviewย about the project earlier this week, Grahame-Smith revealed that he wants the sequel to occur in the present day, with Michael Keaton back as the Ghost with the Most.
