Benefit Evil, the charity that performs annual marathon video gaming sessions with the players getting sponsored and the revenue going to charity, has rebranded itself as Infinite Continues, in an attempt to reach out to a wider audience and in acknowledgment of the fact that Resident Evil will no longer be the sole game the group plays during the marathon.”One of the biggest obstacles we have faced each year has been getting people to donate to a charity event with ‘evil’ in the title,” a rep for the charity explained on their Facebook page. “Especially companies we have reached out to.”Infinite Continues, which has donated to children’s charities every year since it was launched, will also vary up their donations this year and donate to a cancer charity this year, although the exact charity and whether they’ll continue to vary the charity of choice on an annual basis aren’t yet known, neither is the exact date for this year’s marathon.A statement from the group can be found below.
We have reached August and you may have noticed that your Benefit Evil Team has had a serious lack of updates about our 76-hour marathon this year. It is time to shed some light on the event. Since June, we have been holding “secret meetings” and after some debate we have come to a few conclusions.Benefit Evil started about 4 years ago and has had 3 successful years running our charity event and although we have changed things along the way, including our members, we never stopped having fun. We’ve made friends ranging from New York to Australia with plenty of stops along the way. We are incredibly grateful to have met each and every one of you. One day we hope to meet you all in person and have a giant nerd party! Although a handful of us began Benefit Evil in Syracuse, New York, we are not the only people who make up the Benefit Evil Team. Each and every one of you is as important to the team as those who appear on the stream. We thank you for your donations, dedication, and support through the years. That being said, we are excited to announce that our Facebook page has undergone a HUGE change. From this day forward we will be known as Infinite Continues. One of the biggest obstacles we have faced each year has been getting people to donate to a charity event with “evil” in the title. Especially, companies we have reached out to. Our new name is meant to bring hope and encouragement without losing any video game references.Secondly, we will be introducing more games into our yearly stream. Resident Evil will not be the only title, instead we have put together a list of “horror” games (shhhh, the final list is still a secret!). Our goal is to expand our audience by incorporating a more diverse group of games. Please, if you have any recommendations we would love to hear them! Finally, due to recent events our team members have faced this year, we have decided to donate to a different charity. Particularly a cancer benefit. At this time we are still exploring our options. There are a lot of cancer charities out there and we want to pick one that will benefit on a global scale. We would like to thank you all again, from the bottom of our hearts, for being a vital part of our team. Each and every one of you is extremely important. Thank you for growing with us.If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please post them at the end of this message or send us an email to our new address: infinitecontinuescharity@gmail.com
