In a video interview with IGN at WonderCon 2016, former Superman and current Atom Brandon Routh weighed in on the modern-day Superman of the DC Comics Cinematic Universe. The Superman Returns star, who now plays his second DC hero on Legends of Tomorrow on The CW, hasn’t seen Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice yet, but weighed in anyhow.

“For me, Superman is always based out of Christopher Reeve’s Superman. The charming, positive quality about Superman, the uplifting quality that allows us to see the better side of our own humanity, and see that reflected: the greatness that we all have within us. That’s the part of Superman that I like to see most,” Routh said.

“But you know, everybody has multiple sides to their character; we’re not all exactly the same every day,” he continued, perhaps covering his statements a bit. “So it’s interesting to see that in our superheroes as well, I suppose.”

Routh can be seen on Legends of Tomorrow as the ever-optimistic Atom on Thursdays at 8pm on The CW.
