Action Lab’s Tomboy came out of nowhere last year to be one of the best new series in all of comics — and with a new trade paperback collecting the first arc and a second storyline kicking off, the good folks over at El Cheapo Comics have put together a rap-recap (yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like) to get fans caught up on the series.

“I’m really excited about this rap-recap!” The creator posted to YouTube. “Tomboy took me by surprise and I fell in love with the characters, writing, and art. I hope you all dig this video. It has a Gorillaz vibe to it that I think you will all really like.”

The first issue of Mia Goodwin’s Tomboy has been made available for free on Noisetrade, with the option to donate a “tip” to Goodwin if you enjoy the issue.

Tomboy is a horror comic revolving around a teenage girl whose best friend is killed on her birthday. She seeks revenge in an unexpected way, and ultimately turns to her grandfather, a retired police officer, for help.

Tomboy: Divine Intervention collects the first four issues and is on sale now. Tomboy #5 is due out next month.
