Ticket To Ride is expanding yet again, and this time, the game is placing a major emphasis on not just travelling by train, but also by ship.

Days of Wonder has announced Ticket To Ride: Rails & Sails, and will come with an intricately designed two sided board. One side will house the World Map, and the opposite side contains The Great Lakes Map. Both have much of the same mechanics, but there are differences between the two, which you can see in the rulebooks here and here.

This new iteration also features new Train and Ship cards which will allow you to claim routes and build harbors. Rails & Sails also introduces a new ticket called the Tour ticket, which lists three to five cities, which all have to be connected together. If you do so, be prepared for immense rewards.

“With Ticket to Ride: Rails & Sails, players will meet new challenges”, says Adrien Martinot, General Manager at Days of Wonder. “They will need to carefully plan their advance and manage their reserve of trains and ships to complete their objectives without losing time. To cover the entire world, we created an oversized board – bigger than any existing Ticket to Ride board, and with a lot of plastic figures – we’re talking about travelling through the whole world, aren’t we?”

Rails & Sails is a completely standalone game, so for players who haven’t experienced the game, this is a great entryway into the franchise. The game houses 2 to 5 players, and will be available at GenCon this year for $80. You can view some photos of the game in the gallery.
