Deadpool Movie Opening Weekend Projections Rise To $90 Million Plus

Deadpool is now projected to gross over $90 million at the box office over the long holiday weekend.

This number is up from earlier projections of $65-70 million. Some high estimates even suggest $100 million is a possibility.

That puts the film in the company of Marvel Studios heavyweights like Guardians of the Galaxy ($94.3 million) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($95 million). See how they compare at ComicBook’s top grossing movies page.

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool is directed by Tim Miller, with a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapičić, and Leslie Uggams.
