Photographer Daniel Picard has created a unique collection of photographs, taking recognizable characters from across comics and film and placing them in mundane, comical, and unusual situations. Figure Fantasy: The Pop Culture Photography of Daniel Picard is a collection of Picard?s carefully composed work that brings imaginary heroes and villains to life in unexpected ways.

The collection features an introduction by Simon Pegg (Star Trek, Shaun of the Dead), who describes the collection as ?a wonderful conversation piece. Picard creates his unique photographs using 12-inch ?gures from Sideshow Collectibles in settings and environments built to their scale, creating the illusion that the characters have been transported into the real world.

?I?d always wanted to see the Joker face off with G.I. Joe or the new Star Wars characters interacting with the old Star Wars ?gures, Picard says, ?Photography for me is a way to express my own stories as a fan.?

In his afterword to the collection, Kevin Smith (Mallrats, Chasing Amy) shares the sentiment, saying, ?As children, we could mix and match our toys within their different universes, limited only by our imagination.? He goes on to say that Picard?s ?salute to all the fun we had with our toys as kids? is so rewarding as an adult because it ?shows us things that normally couldn?t exist.?
