Guardians of the Galaxy Super Bowl Trailer

Initial reports regarding 2014 Super Bowl movie trailers had Disney only buying one commercial spot during the big game. With Need For Speed set to be released on March 14, 2014 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier set to be released on April 4, 2014, most speculation pointed to Disney promoting one of those two films with their single ad buy. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is shopping for an additional two spots, hoping to pick them up from advertisers dropping out at the last minute. While Disney has yet to officially comment on their advertising buy for Super Bowl XLVII, sources are indicating that the three films that Disney wants to promote are Need For Speed, Captain America: The Winter Solider, and Guardians of the Galaxy.Assuming the rumors are true, a last minute ad buy could run Disney as much as $4.4 million for a 30 second spot. Assuming Disney is able to secure the two additional spots it is seeking, then fans might get their first look at a Guardians of the Galaxy trailer during the Super Bowl. If Disney follows the path that it has in the past, then next week, they will probably officially announce their trailers and possibly drop a couple seconds of teaser footage. Then, during the Super Bowl, fans could probably expect to see a 30 second spot with an extended trailer released online.Of course, since Disney is just now trying to acquire additional spots, there’s no guarantee that they will get enough spots to air a Guardians of the Galaxy commercial. However, given the strong positive response to early Guardians of the Galaxy footage that was shown at San Diego Comic-Con and Disney’s D23 Expo, debuting a Guardians of the Galaxy trailer during Super Bowl XLVII would probably be money well spent by Disney.Guardians of the Galaxy is set to be released in movie theaters on August 1, 2014.
